I have bought 6 sleeper gobbies and they kept disappearing. Is it possible that my serpentine starfish is killing them? He seems to be very friendly with them.

Should I have a lid on my saltwater tank? I have been told some fish will jump out without a tight fitting lid. However I have also been old that a lid will negatively effect the pH of my water. What should I do?
